He got it. He felt stupid thinking of it as a dream, but holy shit, he got the promotion.

He never intended to have this life, and he never intended to stay so long in War, but now that he was here -- he might as well play the game to win it. And win he did. Dominion was the ultimate top of the pyramid for him, it was as far as he could climb within the ranks by tooth and nails alone, and honestly, he never thought it'd happen. He pushed for it, and he sure as hell believed he was the best, but to think he'd actually get it? That had him on cloud fucking nine.

The only thing he did before he went to her place was stop at the usual bakery and get themselves two thick slices of chocolate cake, as per tradition. It wouldn't be a celebration without it. And when he knocked upon her door, he actually found himself biting back on a grin, like a little kid on Christmas' morning, or something. "Hey," he greeted as soon as she opened up, not giving her any time to speak. "Guess who just got promoted?"
