Dani Pedrosa talking about what he learned while he was Marc Marquez's teammate and their different approaches to a race weekend.

"My way of approaching the race was always "from less to more". Try to minimise the risks, because obviously, whenever I would crash, I would injure myself, and I couldn't crash 5 times in the weekend and then finish on the podium. This was inconceivable to me. Marc was doing it. He would destroy 5 bikes but on Sunday, either he would win the race or finish second or third.

What I learned from Marc is this different way of approaching a race weekend. He would go at 100% and when he would do too much, he would go down 1% every time he needed to until he could reach the ideal point. His approach was always "give 100% or a bit more". And if then doing less is necessary, do less. I was the opposite. Give 90%, see where I was, and then, if it was needed, I would try to take risks and get into this 100% set up and see if everything could go well.

On the physical side of things, the consequence of a mistake was always big for me, and it didn't allow me to play the same card as [Marc]. Mentally, it cost me a lot, because I was at his side [in the box] and I wanted to also have this freedom and nerve to say "I don't think about anything, I give it gas and whatever happens, happens". But when I had done that in the past, you know how that ended. So I didn't want to play, especially at the start of the season, I didn't want to risk getting injured so early because then you keep yourself away from having a chance at the championship."
