He sat across from her, tapping his finger softly on the handle of his mug as he gazed absently at the silver band around her finger. "He really loves you, you know that?" He mused. "You don't always see it, but the way he looks at you--the way he talks about you...he's so in love with you." "Yeah," she answered. She ran her thumb along the smooth surface of the ring, "Sometimes," she paused for a moment, "I don't feel like I deserve it. Like, who am I even? Why did he choose me? Of all the other people in this city, why--" "Because you're you," he interrupted, "you deserve the world." He immediately regretted his words and looked away. It was the last time they would meet this way, and also the same way that they would meet every time from now on. The dance between friendship and something more they had silently shared for so long had finally ended and he had lost his partner. But she didn't need to know his thoughts. Not now, anyway. Still staring out the window he said, "the weather's gotten so warm lately. Any plans for the summer?"
