Tips For The Future
I take a lot of photos and love photography, but what I love most about photography is how you can plan the framing and composition of each shot. You are also able to edit the photo using an editing software to perfect the photo further and change the framing and composition if you weren't able to capture it at the time.
However with videography it can be considerably more difficult to continuously plan the framing and composition of each frame of each scene. This is because the scene is constantly changing, the character positioning, the movement of props, the lighting, and the background are factors to consider when filming.
The mise-en-scene within a single frame can effect the scene a huge amount as a signifier, the positioning of a prop, the colouring within that scene, and the other factors of the mise-en-scene generate a lot of meaning. This is where directing comes into play as the director can tell the characters where they want them so the framing and composition is right for the emotion and setting that he requires for the scene.
The correct planning of the framing and composition of shots when out shooting work for my Uni course, it will allow for shorter shooting times. This can save money that you've budgeted for and allows cast and crew more time to rest and not have to spend needless time at shoots.
It can also give you more time to edit the footage and make sure that the sound, colouring, cuts, and quality of the overall piece are of a high quality. It can also save time when you plan if you are on a strictly tight schedule, which we are on at University.
