Open Studio Day at 2B Studios in DC
I like visiting artist's studios. I prefer it to a gallery. I enjoy seeing the environment where art is created. Artists are more comfortable talking about their art when they are "on their own turf". Visiting an artist's studio gives a perspective of the entirety of an artist's work: You have a chance to see a lot of the artist's work in one place. Talking to artists also helps me to define my own art.
Recently I visited 2B Studios. They had an open studio day, which was busy, active, and vibrant. Artists had small prints and drawings for sale at 5-20 dollars, and people were buying them. There was an art installation in the bathroom, also called the "Small Room Gallery", by Megan Mueller, which I loved. I took photos of Graham Boyle, and Rose Jaffe in front of their art. The artists were so busy selling art and talking to visitors, that they barely had time to pose for me. These artists really inspire me. I enjoy going to a museum once in awhile to see a Picasso or Matisse, but I really prefer seeing what contemporary artists are doing today.
