Episode 6: Artist Rose Jaffe on art and stretching yourself
Rose Jaffe in Berlin
Ghost Gallery is currently taking residence in Berlin and we were pleased to find out that US artist Rose Jaffe, whom we have admired from across the pond, is doing the same.
Jumping at this opportunity, we went to check out Rose’s exhibition at Takt Kunstprojektraum and had a look around her studio space where she had been living and working.

From the teaching archives: Rose Jaffe (BFA 2011)
Smooth and sassy monotprints by Rose Jaffe, Stamps alumna and an artist currently based in Washington D.C. where she teaches creative arts at Parkmont School. Her prints reveal the ethereal quality of trace monoprint portraiture. Subjects include a ceramic artist and her younger sister, amongst others. More of Rose's work can be seen at her tumblr.
Open Studio Day at 2B Studios in DC
I like visiting artist's studios. I prefer it to a gallery. I enjoy seeing the environment where art is created. Artists are more comfortable talking about their art when they are "on their own turf". Visiting an artist's studio gives a perspective of the entirety of an artist's work: You have a chance to see a lot of the artist's work in one place. Talking to artists also helps me to define my own art.
Recently I visited 2B Studios. They had an open studio day, which was busy, active, and vibrant. Artists had small prints and drawings for sale at 5-20 dollars, and people were buying them. There was an art installation in the bathroom, also called the "Small Room Gallery", by Megan Mueller, which I loved. I took photos of Graham Boyle, and Rose Jaffe in front of their art. The artists were so busy selling art and talking to visitors, that they barely had time to pose for me. These artists really inspire me. I enjoy going to a museum once in awhile to see a Picasso or Matisse, but I really prefer seeing what contemporary artists are doing today.
