My Enemy (1/?)
Summary: Pre-Debut Youngmi works hard to be the best she can be, while fellow trainee Kim Taeha tries her best to bring the younger girl down, while pre-debut Chanli sticks up for his "younger sister" and goes from crush to target.
Warnings: Bullying, Body Shaming, Verbal abuse
Characters: Youngmi, Taeha (VIOLET), Chanli/Majesty
Youngmi took a deep breath, her shoulders lifting and lowering slowly as she tried to calm herself down a bit. She was alone in the dance studio, staring at her weary reflection in the mirror as the soft bass of a hip-hop track hummed in the background. There was so much pressure for her to do good - at the young age of 14, she was one of the youngest trainees in the roster for Starpunches future super group. She had to do better than everybody else to prove she was good enough and that her young age didn’t matter. Always the target of bullying from the older kids, she wanted to show them she had what it took to debut.
After a few minutes, she proceeds to go through the choreography again, this time stumbling towards the end and falling down onto her knees. Behind her, a sinister laugh rings out from the doorway. “You are so clumsy! Tall people really are some of the worst dancers!” Taeha laughs darkly, arms crossed over her chest as she stares at the younger girl with a smirk.
“What do you want?” Youngmi snaps as she turns to face Taeha.
The older girl strides up to her, shaking her head and laughing a little. “Why do you think you have a chance at debuting? You’re a baby while some of us have actually trained much harder and longer, and actually have talent besides ‘looking good’” she puts finger quotes around the last part, her voice a mocking tone. It was true that Youngmi had been selected solely based on her charisma and pretty face, but the company saw more they could build on and gave her a chance.
Youngmi huffs and stomps her foot. “I do have talent! I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t!”
Taeha disregards her words, just tutting as she pokes at Youngmis shoulder. “You’re really not that pretty, you know? Your face is far too round and you are much too tall and skinny, almost like a twig. Such an odd combination that nobody could ever find attractive.”
"The wicked witch of Starpunch strikes again." A deep voice murmurs from the door. Both girls turn around, a matching look of surprise on their face. "Oppa!" They say in unison. Taeha's demeanor immediately changes, a coy smile on her face as Chanli strolls in. His comment completely flies over her head as her attraction towards he older male took over.
“Oppa! Hey! How are you?” She plasters on a fake smile, reaching out to touch his bicep. Chanli pulls away before she can, instead going to stand next to Youngmi.
“Why are you being like this, Taeha?” He asks seriously, not falling for her act. The girl looks at him, confused as her mouth opens and closes a few times.
"Why are you so cruel to little Mimi? She is fourteen and you are nearly seventeen...Does that not make you feel sad to pick on a child?" Chanli may have been known as an immature goofball but when it came to Youngmi or people he cared about, he was very serious and protective.
Taeha looked taken aback by his comment and she steps back, eyes darting between the two. "I'm sure you misheard our conversation - I was simply trying to give little Mimi some constructive criticism to prepare her for evaluations."
"Well, leave that to the proper instructors." He says flatly. "And stop picking on children. Doing so won't magically make you better and doing it in hopes she'll leave and you'll have less competition is a dirty tactic."
Youngmi pouts as she looks up at Chanli. "I am not a child..." She mumbles innocently.
Taeha crosses her arms. "You see one moment of tough love a d dare peg me as some evil witch?" She asks in disbelief, her voice raising an octave
Chanli frowns. "The trainees talk. Gossip is ripe...Even the instructors talk. Guess who's always the topic of the most negative conversations?" He leans close, bopping her on the nose. "Kim Taeha." He says slowly.
Youngmi snorts as she wipes a strand of hair out of her face. "Popular in the company but for not-so-nice reasons..." She adds.
Taeha lets out an annoyed huff before turning towards the door, taking a deep breath. "You both are pathetic. I will make your lives hell here." She seethed before leaving the room, slamming the door behind her.
