Day One: 28th March. A Tale of Two Yarns - 2kcbwday1

Part of any fiber enthusiast’s hobby is an appreciation of yarn. Choose two yarns that you have either used, are in your stash or which you yearn after and capture what it is you love or loathe about them.

This is difficult, since there are many yarns that I love, but none that I loathe.  Either way, choosing is difficult.

Cascade 220 Heathers: Love

While I learned how to knit when I was around 6, I didn't really pick it back up until around 10 years later.  For a while I used whatever yarn I found at the local craft stores, aka acrylic.  (For the record, I'm no yarn snob)  Then I discovered a LYS in my town, and I was in love.  My first buy, (and wool yarn) was a Cascade 220 Heathers in a shade of blue.  I was in love.  I loved the colors, how it felt when I knit it, and how my project turned out.  It also helped me get an A on a final in college.  It was a Humanistic Psychology course, and our final was of our devising, some sort of creative endeavor which showed the meeting of psychology and Eastern philosophies.  I wrote a paper on why knitting is a form of meditation, and knit a hat for the professor in this yarn.  I got an A!  And as many people state, it is really a workhorse yarn, really good quality for the price.  The heathers colors just stand out to me more as I find the colors gorgeous.

Jo-Ann Sensations Angel Hair: Not a fan

I was asked to knit a scarf for a friend in college, and I found this while shopping and at first I really liked it.  Then I began to knit with it, and disdain began to set in.  There is just so much going on with the yarn, at least in a tactile manner, it is fluffy, soft, but also bulky and over time, a bit rough.  It did knit up quickly in a simple 2x2 rib pattern, but it really obscured the stitches.  I honestly do not know what pattern it would work with, but I was glad to be done with it.
