大家好! 今天的问题是 "你有什么宠物？" 我有一只猫。我的猫很大。他的名字是Theo。他是黑色的。 他十三岁。他睡觉很多，喜欢拥抱和睡在我的腿上。 但他很害羞，躲避陌生人。

This was the prompt that needed less preparation so far; I only needed to look up how to say he likes hugs and cuddles (settled for "sleeping on my legs") and that he's shy and hides from strangers.

拥抱 (yǒngbào) = hug(s) 腿 (tuǐ) = leg 害羞 (hàixiū) = shy 躲避 (duǒbì) = to hide, to avoid 陌生人 (mòshēng rén) = strangers

I’m doing the 30 Day Record Yourself Challenge for Japanese! I’m starting late and I’ll try to do it every other day. I answered the question using Siri first, so it typed it out for me and then I read and recorded it. This way I don’t have to stumble through the recording. Corrections welcome!

30 Day Record Yourself Challenge, Day 15: “Where would you like to live?“

大家好! 今天的问题是 "你想在哪里生活？" 我经常梦想住在苏格兰的爱丁堡。 那是我在世界上最喜欢的地方。 我第一次去那里是在我十六岁的时候。我只在那里呆了两天。 多年后我回来的时候，走出火车站的那一刻，我就哭了。 那里太美了。

I took these pictures in July 2017, when I spent a month there taking the CELTA course. It was really hard to pick the photos because I wanted to include so many beautiful places...

爱丁堡 (Àidīngbǎo) = Edinburgh 苏格兰 (Sūgélán) = Scotland 走出火车站 (zǒuchū huǒchē zhàn) = to get out of the train station (that's one good tongue twister!) 哭 (kū) = to cry (I knew the word but look at that character omg 😥)

I’ll be trying the #30DRYC by @Fingtam.Languages in september for speaking practice.

I wanna try to post my recordings here. Don’t know if anyone will care to listen, but I’m open to constructive criticism.

30 Day Record Yourself Challenge, Day 11: “What makes you happy?”

大家好! 今天的问题是 "什么让你快乐？" 和我的朋友在一起，跑步和听我喜欢的音乐让我很高兴。 旅行让我感到很快乐，但往往苦乐参半,因为我想家和人……

This led me to read up on the difference between 快乐 and 高兴 (apparently 高兴 is more appropriate for a temporary feeling, while 快乐 is better suited for long-lasting happiness, and is the form ued for wishing someone a happy holiday - 节日快乐 - or happy birthday - 生日快乐)

I also looked up if there's a translation for "bittersweet", I find it such a good expression in English. I found 苦乐参半 (kǔ lè cānbàn) which seems to mean just that... but I wonder if it's used with the same intention (in Portuguese we have the word "agridoce" but at least in Brazil its use is restricted to food)
