Hello! first of all i'm sorry if what i write comes across as offensive or ill-informed ! I was wondering if I could get some help? I have a friend whom i suspect probably has ADD. I've been finding a lot of articles giving ppl with ADD advice/tecniques on how to talk to people/deal with the issues they face.. but there's nothing for people like me who'd like to make my friend's life easier! I'd like to know, what can I do to help/accomodate your needs? --
Id recommend asking them what you could help them with if anything at all. Some people don’t want help and some people want lots. Find out what both of you would be most comfortable with. Id also suggest suggesting things you could do for your friend like these:
If they are unorganized keep planners together. If you keep one as well you can remind them to update it. Make it include homework, job related things, and basic reminders they might need.
Give them reminders that they need. If they forget to shower, send them texts once you know they are home as a reminder. Ask them one to two hours after you sent it if they showered. This can work for things like homework, drinking water, eating, and anything else.
Don’t be mad at them when they forget things, loose track of things, or anything else that is an ADHD/ADD related tendency. Hold them accountable for things, but understand they are not trying to upset you. Don’t make them feel guilty for this.
