We were lining up for a faceoff, and we had just come back from the All-Star Game, and I thought, you know, like, you know— Friedman: Is that when you won fastest skater? Barzal: We’re buddies, right? We’re buddies, right? I don’t know when it was. But. I went to line up on the opening draw with him and kind of tried to make some eye contact, and he was so laser-focused on the ref’s hand. There was, there was nothing said. You know, he was just right back to business. But that’s why he’s so great. So don’t take it, don’t take it [as] disrespect. Schaefer: No, I know. He’s just, he’s dialed in.

Josh Morrissey on playing with Sid at the 4 Nations Face-Off

Elliotte Friedman: Josh Morrissey made an incredible point about Crosby. He said that there's a whole new group of players who'd never played with Sid before because there'd been no best-on-best, and they got the opportunity to play with him. And he said what it created was a whole new legion of Crosby fanboys among players. Like obviously they saw him and they respect him, but the guys in that room who saw him on a day-to-day basis, he says they're all going back to their teams and talking about how incredible it was to play with him for a week and a half. And it's everything from the way he treats people, to the way he takes care of himself, to his attitude--always positive, relaxed, "We're gonna work it out." Like everything about him all these players are telling all their teammates about. And I think that is such a compliment.

I’ve went AWOL for a month but hockey twitter is a cesspool this offseason. Jeff Marek was fired to appease the NHL’s gambling overlords, Oilers hiring Stan Bowman (of Blackhawks fame circa 2010), and Jeremy Swayman had the audacity to not sign at the free agent deadline and have a girlfriend (#SpeakUpNowSway #ImKiddingThatWasAndRemainsInsaneBehavior). Among other things.
