Day #3251 Descendents - I Don’t Want To Grow Up I was reminded today when I woke up by in a post by @chrisshary the 40 years Ago @Descendents played their first live show ever. Riding the crest of a new wave, this band would cement the term “pop-punk” as its own genre. Carving out a path for for thousands of bands to come, it really is a momentous event in the punk rock timeline. It would also be the first time the roads of fishing and punk rock would intersect 🎣/💥. This album in particular would be my first introduction to Descendents. Pervert, &the title track as heard in an infamous video called Ohio Skateout. A video which would also blow my mind with a whole Easter basket of SST gems but that’s an entire post of its own (but for reals google Ohio skateout soundtrack, it’s unreal especially for a kid that mainly listened to Depeche Mode, the smiths and the cure) I Don’t Want To Grow Up really bridged that gap for me from the Cure to the Damned. It was the band that made me realiz these two worlds could live in harmony and you didn’t have to be just punk or only goth, you didn’t need to be only ONE thing...and I guess pun intended you could be”two things at once”.
