Silent Treatment (AE-3803 Scenario)
Warnings: Slight fluff, slight angst.
Anonymous Request: CAW: 3803 for once is the embarrassed one who's acting stubborn beyond words and won't admit she's wrong. With a twisted ankle she ignored 1146's earlier advice to giver her delivery to another and finished her job with stubbornness unmatched except for the severe pain she's now in. Now she's been discovered by a rather quietly miffed 1146 who refuses to talk to her or put her down as he carries her in his arms the long way home for all the world to see. She thinks he must be punishing her.

“Umm, Mr. Neutrophil?”
No response.
“Mr. Neutrophil?”
This time, AE-3803 manages to get a response. Unfortunately, it’s not the one she’s looking for.
U-1146 grunts, readjusts his hold on 3803, and keeps walking.
The redheaded blood cell took a deep breath, steeling herself. “Mr. Neutrophil, I’m fine. Honest!”
That's true! In the beginning 3803 was the one who was overly clingy and "Please let's be friends!" to such levels 1146 was all stoic about it. Then things got reversed. 1146 become the overly emotional one while 3803 become the cooler one in charge. If you try to interpret their moments as romantic, it's so one sided. I can find plenty of manga moments where 1146 acts like he's in love with her. W/3803 she barely shows a hint she could like him romantically.
YES. SOMEONE SAID IT.
We need more instances where it’s the male lead who’s head over heels for the female lead while she is either oblivious or being totally awesome without a forced romantic interest.
The change in the dynamic, no matter how subtle, is both cute and hilarious. You would think it would go all shoujo on us with 3803 pining, but she grows and develops naturally as a character on her own that it’s completely fine if there’s no romance. She is mature not only in the professional sense (progressing from the lost rookie to full veteran cell), but emotionally and relationally.
[This can be fully showcased in the COVID chapters and how she dealt with Rambo Normal Cell and his prejudices and fears].
Whereas with 1147, he’s near untouchable with his sense of professionalism. However, and I can see why 3803 got shafted in later arcs of Main, he has to grow as a cell in an emotional and relationship kind of sense. It’s been hinted that immune cells as a whole are kind of insulated in their little bubble, only seeking to aid and protect civilian cells. He’s stoic and aloof, not really associating with them.
Enter 3803 and that’s when he starts opening up and beginning to become more knowledgeable about the plights of other cells.
If 3803’s development was geared to becoming a better cell and understanding the systems of the body, then 1146’s development stems from learning how to become more open and reliant on other cells.
It’s such a great dynamic!!!
One can’t survive without the other and can be applied in real life situations. It’s good to have objective knowledge at times, but it’s also beneficial to know when to use emotional intelligence! It’s a great lesson to learned, especially in a shounen manga.
Hahahah! Thanks for listening to me rant and I hope that you have a wonderful day! :D
