Episode : Yang Datang, Yang Pergi
People come and go.
That's okay.
Till recently, I've always viewed things from the perspective of someone raised on love and hope and truly had this unwavering faith in everything not being as bad as people perceive it to be. A quote from Anne Frank's diary which always stayed with me is, "In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart." So, despite anything bad that ever happened to me or anyone ever did to me (let's just say, I sympathise a lot with my younger self), I still chose to see the world with the optimistic lens that I wore, constantly believing that if people were a bit more optimistic, everything would be alright and that possibly, only because people are so critical and pessimistic in their approach towards life there's so much of mental health issues. Blissfully, I was quite unaware of the stickiness of trauma and how stubborn the stain of depression and anxiety can truly be.
As I grew, I listened to people's stories, what they went through and is going through, I started viewing the world without the preconceived notion of, everything is sunshine and rainbows after the rain. Sometimes, there's even heavier rain, thunderstorms and flood. Yes, it eventually subsides and sunshine eventually peeps out but it might take a lot of time and it certainly requires a lot of hope and strength to even believe that there is indeed a brighter tomorrow.
Someone out there younger than you in age could be so much more matured, self sufficient. He or she has taken responsibility on those young shoulders when they were not ready to and has been carrying the baggage of everything since the 'childhood' they probably didn't have the privilege to live in.
They shut down and pull the curtains during their time of crisis and choose not to 'burden' anyone with their emotions because how does one asks to be taken care of and loved suddenly after being alien to the concept for such a long time?
Everyone has their share of pain and hardships. Not the same kind and intensity definitely and sometimes it seems unfair but we all got our shit to handle. It almost feels illegal how someone gets to take a year drop for the field/college they want to get in and how someone out there maybe even sharper doesn't have the privilege to even dream of that. They need to look for a job, earn and support their family as soon as possible so they don't even take the step towards the future they could have and those who dare to and make it! To think of the courage and strength! How we all start at so much different levels to participate in the race of life and for some opportunities keep piling up and is still not enough and for some it shows up for the shortest window after so much of struggle, either you miss it or make it. Life can be so much demanding and exhausting but I truly do hope you find the strength and really hold on to see what it has to offer you. Just a little bit more, hold on. You're loved for who you are and you contribute to this place something no one else can.
