Alumni Family Summer Dinner Recap
Hi everyone,
This is Karen Bernstein, one of the camp doctors, a first-time parent of a Beber camper, and a Beber alumni from ‘87 to ‘92. As a member of Beber’s Young Alumni Families committee, I’m excited to share an update from this weekend’s alumni event.
Six years ago, a small group of Beber alumni (campers and staff from the 80’s and 90’s) began to congregate in the Chicago suburbs the night before they sent their own children off to Mukwonago to make lasting Beber memories. Those of us who did not have campers (yet) took advantage of the time to catch up with dear old friends. Over the years, the group has continued to grow, as alums from near and far (Louisville, Florida, Denver, Omaha, Atlanta, and Chicago…to name a few) continue the Beber tradition.
This year, thanks to the efforts of the Young Alumni Families Committee, we made it an “official” event that was quite a success! 15 alumni families gathered at Brickyard Park in Deerfield for an evening of pizza, fun, and memories. Adults reconnected, new campers found buddies, returning campers bubbled with excitement to return to the “happiest place on earth”, and those kids still years away from Makor took advantage of the fantastic park – playing in the rain until soaked. The evening was topped off with a visit from the ice cream truck… and who doesn’t love an ice cream truck?!
Despite not seeing each other for years, and the miles between us notwithstanding, it was obvious that the bonds Beber had created were long lasting and “Friends, Friends Friends….we will always be” . Whether or not our kids will become the “next generation” of Beber camp, we all agreed the event was wonderful opportunity to reconnect with our “Beber Family”.
We look forward to continuing this tradition, and welcome alums and their families from near and far to join us next year. To make sure you stay informed about upcoming alumni events, like Beber’s Facebook page, follow @beberalumni on Instagram, and email Marc or Elli to be added to the mailing list!
