Terribly sorry if you’ve already talked about this and I just didn’t notice, but how do you go about making your humanoid models in Blockbench?
No problem at all! I do have some previous answered asks that cover some of the things I use, like:
Armature models for help with the upper body
2D planes for stylized eye expressions
Plus, a bonus dropbox link to my blockbench models, in case you ever want to pick them apart yourself! (Just don't use them for anything without asking of course)
Other than that, it's really just winging it! I have no shame in admitting I Frankenstein my models together to make new ones >:]
Below are resources, tips, and tricks to help people with e@ting d!sord3rs. (Please do not continue reading if you are triggered by such topics).
Help lines/services
Below are some helplines for eating disorders.
Australia - 1800 33 4673
America - (800) 931-2237
(I couldn't find any others, but I'm sure a quick google search would help you. Let me know if you'd like me to add extras!)
In addition, therapy can be funded by the Government if you get an assessment and diagnosis. I'm aware not everyone can afford this, but if you have access to this, it could be a great tool!
HEALTHY coping mechanisms
For not eating (do NOT try these if you suffer from 4n4rexia, or are in a position where you are hungry/st@rving. These are intended for people who suffer from unhealthy amounts of binging, bvlim!a or binge eating d!sord3r).
-Drinking water (can replace the motion of eating, as that's normally what we get addicted to)
-Eat some fruit (like berries or grapes, because eating a lot of them won't do anything - in fact, they're healthy and sweet, so they're a great replacement for sweets!)
-Gum or chew toys (give the stimulation of eating without consuming anything!)
-Gelatin water (mix some gelatin with water, it's simple and chewy :>)
For eating more
-Eat little bits at a time (if you eat small pieces of food - like yoghurt or some crackers, but eat more of them over long periods of time it feels like you're eating less while still getting nutrients!)
-Tablets and meds (you can buy some vitamins and other p!lls from your local chemist to help your digestive and immune systems! This might assist your desire to eat :3)
-Juices (drinking your c4lor!es can help, because it doesn't feel like eating! Just make sure you're eating solid food too, though.)
Affirmations
If you don't feel confident in your appearance, look for the little things! Look for the way your shoulder bones stick out when you suck in your breath, the way your hair looks (if you don't like your hair, maybe try styling it into a way you like it!), or your nose (if you don't like your nose, try putting a bandaid on it! I think it looks really cute, and it makes your nose less noticeable. However, don't hide forever because you're beautiful.
Perhaps your calves have nice curves, or a distinguished jaw, or wide eyes! I think eyes are really beautiful, so take a closer look! I think all eye colours are pretty, but if you have a unique colour that's really cool too!
Just remember that you're not alone - seek help. And if you don't want help, just know that it's only going to get worse. There are healthy ways to get to a desired weight or appearance. Please consult a professional or a loved one.
Love y'all! Feel free to vent in the comments or in asks, but please not in dms!
I love your 3d work? It's so good? I'm curious, I'm learning modelling myself and I've been wondering if you know how to do transparent textures on a flat texture? I figured out transparent textures in general but they don't match the rest of my model and nothing I've found has helped T-T
thank you thank you!!
i'm not a 100% sure what it is that you want to do, but here are a couple things that might help you (feel free to clarify in the replies if this isnt what you wanted to do)
(under cut because pictures make it long)
so if you're trying to do this
and have it look like this in the render
but it keeps turning out like this
the solution is simple - you just gotta plug in the alpha to the other alpha channel here like this (in the shading tab)
(ofc the texture itself has to be transparent for this to work, so it should be a png or another file type that supports transparency
if instead you wanna do something like the outside of the jacket on this
it's just a normal transparent texture with a little bit of emission to make it glowy. it doesn't need anything special because it's just a flat texture otherwise
hope either of these things was what you were looking for?
Hello! I was looking at your 3d model animations and was wondering how you did the face animations for the smaller models?
like what did you do to make the mouths move and make them look textured on?
hello! The older models i used to use this method i found in a youtube video!
Link to the video
It's handy, but typing out the variables got a bit tedious so I've sinced switched to the same method I use for the new model's eyes!
For reference, in case you've not seen that post where I covered it
Hey Hory ive been following your blog for quite a while and i was always impressed by how creative with many crafts you are. Recently i also noticed that you do 3d art as well? I really wanted to ask you how did you learn it (i think blender was it?). And whether you had any tips for beginners like me cause its a bit of a struggle to even start.
yeah, I really like making stuff!
I've been learning Blender for 3 years for uni, but we haven't gotten any serious assignments until recently, so it's been around 6 months or so since I "properly" got into 3D and became more comfortable with the software
the classes provided me with the basics, then I learned a lot simply by working on my projects and helping some colleagues to pass
for the tips.. I think in the very beginning the most important thing is to remember, that it will take a lot of time to get familiar with Blender, as it is one hell of a tool - you can basically do everything with it, so it's very easy to get overwhelmed and/or distracted by the interface alone - just pretend you don't see all the weird options and focus on the very basics, like getting comfortable with the navigation, using the basic shortcuts and working in edit mode
other than that I think it's like learning any other skill: find something that you like and try modeling it, for example try to recreate your room, then a very simple character from a media you like (or an oc), etc.
just start - obviously you can find and follow some tutorials you think are fun or look for some inspo for beginner friendly lowpoly models you'd like to recreate - then, as you go, simply google any problem you encounter (the net has all the answers)
long story short, find something that will be very easy to make, but also satisfying for you to look at when you finish - I think that's the best motivation
