Professor Xu Weiguo’s team ingeniously crafted a 3D printed concrete Book Cabin in Shanghai’s Baoshan Wisdom Bay Science and Technology Park. The concrete shell was structured, designed and built with integrating printing machines and materials developed by the team. The design presents as part of “Art Bridge Space” in Shanghai, used for book shows, academic discussions, and book sharing sessions. Boson Machines, an extrusion 3D printer manufacturer and 3D printing service in Mumbai, India, completed the 20 feet tall programmable, LED, wave-like modular facade of the Hybec Lighting Store, also in Mumbai, by 3D printing 6,000 light bulbs. The enormous work required 2 months and a total of 18,000 hours of printing on Boson Machines’ Graviton filament extrusion systems. The concept was to create unique bulbs with a brain-like aesthetic using PET. Using LED lighting the bulbs change color and create truly spectacular effects.
