i don’t think anyone’s gonna read this but anyway, this is the first album i recommend any time someone asks me for a music recommendation. saying this album means everything to me is a MASSIVE understatement. it has genuinely gotten me through the worst hardships of my life. both stephan jenkins and kevin cadogan are two of my biggest inspirations as a writer and guitarist, this album is beautiful and perfect from front to back. i genuinely cannot fit my admiration for it into a simple paragraph to this blog, i’ve never appreciated a single musical piece so deeply. this album is my everything</3
every single song on this album could be my favorite song in general. Narcolepsy easily is because it’s my go-to song in literally every single scenario. the me song EVER!!! Semi-Charmed Life is obviously the band’s hit song, everybody knows it, but it holds a really special place in my heart. it was the first song i ever loved to play on guitar, and in one way or another, it’s tied to every good memory i have. whether it was driving with my siblings, bonding with my mom (rare), singing with my friends. it’s in the background (The Background?😱) of everything for me. every single person i know has also said that it makes them think of me, which makes me feel special, i dunno. it means a lot to me when i get told that, especially with something i hold so dearly. regardless of how much the meaning contrasts with the beat, it’s the only song that actually picks me up. if anything, the contrast is what i love most about the song. it makes everything feel like it’ll be okay even in the worst of times. Motorcycle Drive By is also one of the most beautiful songs i’ve ever heard, hearing it triggers something in me & actually makes my stomach turn. it’s bad.
it’s just extremely, extremely personal to me; i don’t think i’ll ever love any song or album the way i do this one. it’s lowk dramatic but it has literally made me who i am and has drastically bettered my perspective on life. the same way i feel about The Walking Dead is how i feel about this album, it’s very silly but anyone who knows me personally knows i’m insanely passionate for them. probably too much. i get very annoying talking about it bc, as you can tell, i don’t shut up :p
i also deeply admire the version of this album that was rereleased for the 20th anniversary with a few songs and demos. one thing about me is i LOOOOVE my demos, and i usually prefer them over studio versions of songs. Kiss Goodnight — Demo is in my top 5 songs of all time. years ago, i accidentally conditioned myself to fall asleep to this song and for months i couldn’t sleep without playing it, and still to this day, i get increddddibly tired listening to it which feels weird because sleep’s a massive struggle for me. Heroin — Demo is also one of my favorite 3eb songs. i love demos. so much.
i have so much more to say but i’m gonna stop b4 i get too carried away + i doubt anyone’s going2 read this so moral of the story; this album saved my life, this mini essay doesn’t even begin to cover my passion for it
