In chapter 127, Christopher and his dad had one of their rare furious moments. Christopher came home before his dad that day and he kept watching Blue Planet and daydreaming about being part of it. Later at 5:48, Christopher’s dad arrive and make a joke before heading to the kitchen. It seems that that day Christopher had one of those moments that he calls, relaxing your guard, because he forgot his book on the kitchen table. At around 5:54, Christopher’s dad comes back after he took a look at the book that he was holding in his right hand. He tried to hide his anger by talking in a calm tone giving Christopher a chance to explain himself. However it seems that Christopher didn’t understand that and he kept on justifying his actions by making clever excuses which caused his dad to lose his patience. Trying to make Christopher understand that he did wrong even though he had clever excuses for it, Christopher’s father asked, “what else did I say, Christopher?” Admitting he ignorance of the answer, Christopher honestly replied with an “I don’t know”. This makes Christopher’s dad explode causing him to grab his son and take him by absolute shock. The fact that Christopher hates to be touched and the unfamiliarity he has with this side of his father causes Christopher to reacts by hitting his dad, just like his did to the policeman when he grabbed him before. Christopher passes away for a moment, and the next thing he knows is that he is on the carpet with his arm covered in blood and a sharp pain in his head. He notices his father standing there with a scratch on the neck and rip on his sleeve, the corners of the book in his right hand are messed up as well. A second later, he walks outside and throws the book in the outside dustbin. It seems he really doesn’t want Christopher to know anything regarding Mr. Shears and his mother. This scene can means two things. Christopher’s dad doesn’t want him to know anything about his “perfect mom” because he doesn’t want him to be affected by the news, and because he is worried about him. However, it seems that there is something that bothers the father, something he doesn’t want Christopher to know, but for a different reason. Last time, he asked Christopher to do anymore investigation when he told him he was going to become a detective. This time, with Christopher deeper knowledge about the things that he shouldn’t have known, Christopher’s dad seemed more determined to stop him from doing or knowing anything more. This means that even though they share a strong love, the relationship between them lack in the side of honesty. The information that is still to be known seem to be worse than the previous, and the set Christopher’s dad into a panic. This caused me to wander if the relationship between Christopher and his dad is really what it seem to be or there something hidden that has yet to be revealed.
