I sincerely respect your decision and writing, but I would strongly disagree with you. Sometimes people have to lie because they don’t know how their opponent is going to take the news. They don’t know how to give away the information without hurting the one person that they actually care about. There is no harm in telling a white lie because you do it to protect other people’s feelings as well as your own. We lie when we say that we’re fine, but in reality we’re not. Lying isn’t always wrong unless you exaggerate the lie, then that can be harmful.
We basically tell a white lie almost every day of our lives, so then how can we support a decision when we ourselves are doing the opposite? That’s like being a hypocrite; you say something but you do something else. In all honesty, would you rather tell the truth and end up ruining your relationship with someone, or would you rather tell a “white lie” and protect your relationship? It isn’t that easy to actually go ahead and tell the truth every single time. Sometimes when you’re facing a hard time and your crowded with things you don’t know how to deal with, it’s okay to tell a white lie.
We can take Christopher as an example in chapter 79, when he says, “When I got home Father was sitting at the table in the kitchen and he had made my supper. He was wearing a lumberjack shirt. The supper was baked beans and broccoli and two slices of ham and they were laid out on the plate so that they were not touching. He said, "Where have you been?” And I said, “I have been out.” This is called a white lie. A white lie is not a lie at all. It is where you tell the truth but you do not tell all of the truth. This means that everything you say is a white lie ……. And I said a white lie because I knew that Father didn’t want me to be a detective.“ Christopher tells us that telling a white lie is okay because his intention is to try and protect his relationship with father. He knows that his father would get furious if he found out that Christopher had not listened to his advice. He also tells us that a white lie is not a complete lie, so there is some part of truth in it. In other words, it’s harmless. As for what you said and I quote "Christopher was fed up with all the lies” but in the novel, Christopher himself admitted that “ A white lie is not a lie at all.” so actually he was not fed up with his father because he lied, but because he was given way more information at the same time than his mind could handle.
Therefore, I would like to conclude that lying is not always wrong because everyone lies. I lie, you Lie, we all lie!
