开 = kāi = to open, to drive

开 has 2 main meanings: to drive and to open or start things. 

开车 (kāi chē) means to drive, while 开车人 (kāi chē rén) is the driver. 

The majority of words with 开 are related to openness though: 开市 (kāi shì) is to open a store for business, and 开裆裤 (kāi dāng kù) are the open pants that toddlers use. My favourite word with it is 开心 (kāi xīn) which means to be happy, or with a open heart.

水 = shuǐ = water 

A hand-painted sign for today’s (very simple) character. 水 is one of the first hanzi everyone learns, water being essential to life. 

It’s also part of a lot of words, like 风水 (fēngshuǐ), 大水 (dàshuǐ, flood), 水平 (shuǐpíng, level) or 水果 (shuǐguǒ, fruit).

日 = rì = day, sun

Perhaps not a very accurate representation of 日 in this graffiti, its little legs too long for the body and the middle stroke not quite touching its encasing. Still, I like it!

You can see it on dates (today is 2019年8月24日), and on words like 日本 (rìběn, Japan) or 生日 (shēngrì, birthday).

2002 Honda CRF450R It was four years before anyone could touch what Yamaha had in the YZ400F. The CRF450R had all the benefits of the 400F’s 4-stroke engine, but was far lighter, smaller, and easier to operate. It didn’t have the engine, braking, fueling hesitation, or starting issues the Yamaha YZ400F had and was far easier to transfer to and own.

1998 YZ 400F Yamaha took the 4-stroke dirt bike from a play toy to motocross race bike with the YZ400F. It was far more reliable than anything else in it’s class and was the only thing on the market producing that amount of torque across what must have felt like an endless 12,000rmp powerband.
