40 Days to a Personal Revolution
For the past 40 days, I have been involved in the 40 Days to a Personal Revolution challenge with my yoga studio. What does this mean?
6 days of yoga (5 at Big Power Yoga, one at-home practice) per week
Daily mediation, 2 times per day (starting at 5 minutes per week and increasing by 5 minutes each week after)
Mindful eating (eating whole foods and not artificial foods. Limited alcohol, caffeine, and processed foods)
Readings from 40 Days to a Personal Revolution by Baron Baptiste
Weekly inspiring meetings
3-day juice cleanse
Now, I wasn't perfect. Meditation was the most difficult thing for me to remember to do daily. And I definitely slipped up on mindful eating a few times each week. However, I did gain quite a bit:
Lost 6 lbs
Learned how to do headstand and handstand (working on holding these)
Able to hold crow pose
More confidence when doing binds in poses
More patience
Fewer negative feelings when things didn't go my way
More flexibility
Less joint pain when running
Some awesome tools from group meetings to help me stay organized, prioritized and harmonious
I'm pretty glad I did it - although also happy it is over just in time for mid-terms! I am going to continue doing yoga (at least three days a week) and make time for other things in my life. As my friend Kim says, "we are just runners passing through this yoga lifestyle".
