Mack Rice - “Love’s A Mother Brother” ATCO 45-6645, 1969. Not many song titles are truer than this one. This is the b-side to Rice’s minor 1969 soul hit, “Coal Man.” You may not know the name Sir Mack Rice, but you’ve heard his songs. Rice was born in Clarksdale, MS in 1933 and moved with family to Detroit in 1950. Eventually, he joined the Falcons which included Eddie Floyd, Wilson Pickett and Joe Stubbs, the younger brother of Levi Stubbs of the Four Tops. While he became a solo artist recording for Stax and ATCO, Rice’s contribution to music shone the brightest in the area of songwriting. In 1965, he wrote “Mustang Sally,” re-recorded in 1966 by his former bandmate, Wilson Pickett. Rice also wrote “Respect Yourself,” later recorded by the Staple Singers. Other songs by Rice include “Cheaper to Keep Her” and “Cadillac Assembly Line.” #45collection #45rpm #recordcollection #sirmackrice #soul #music #vinyl #singer #songwriter https://www.instagram.com/p/BoX9y1oH-NxkXKa2B3GWWJdsrzJCFL8-dH-olU0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1qiclmvls60jd
