A dim flickering light ahead on the horizon. Smooth, time worn pebbles of translucent red tumble around and beneath him. There he sits, on a pedestal of white waiting for the new beginning. Hair, matted, brown but greying, and curled to his wide shoulders he smiles. A familiar site of those that have come and gone before rises from the small stones. Each shard displaying a wisp of emotion, given away and received in turn. Small hands in the now brightening light begin collecting these marbles. Curiously the man watches, contemplating their actions. He decides to follow, and with a great creaking of muscle and bone, his feet land among the pebbles. He journey's day and day under the red-hot light, pursuing the thieves. His body aches, as old wounds and loved memories fill his mind with each shard touched. Some of the marbles darken beneath his passing, slowly turning into ash. On the horizon, the light dying to a flickering once more, illuminates from inside a vast and ashen construction. He Wade's closer, intent on catching the criminals, when the monolith begins to thrum. The hands disappear into a network of cracks, holes, and detritus at it's base. The man, now exhausted and weary from his travel, collapses under aching joints at the entrance. "You have made this journey many times my friend, are you sure you do not want to rest now? It will be more painful the next time my love." Echoes a familiar, maternal voice from deep within. "I cannot, I haven't found what im looking for yet." The man says, as old marbles give way to faint images of people, tens of thousands, before crumbling to dust. He clutches one tightly to his chest and smiles, as an ages old image of him and another embrace and fade to mist. "I'm getting close though." He says with a final, exhausted breath. His body crumbles slowly to small stones, a mixture of ash and crimson. The thrumming of the monolith pulses quickly as it begins to luminesce in red. A brilliant red light shines far off like the sun. Translucent red pebbles shift and Cascade around her feet. There she laughs and giggles while taking in her new sight.
