nights like these, i feel like dirty water, a lot of muddy sediment drifting somewhere in limbo. wouldn’t you know that i’m staring into darkened rooms- so much waiting? staring even as my gaze shifts in pantomime movement. the breathing of the curtains, the flicker of the lamp, maybe, if we’re lucky, the wavering shadows of branches beyond the window. nights like these, my heart weighs heavily upon itself, a leaden pipe sunken in the shallows.
