Where do we begin

I was in the middle of a long, drawn-out memory of falling in love with you -embellishing all the best details- when the sun began to shrink behind the clouds.

The room I was sitting in grew dark.

For the first time in years I could feel the air change as it dragged against my soon-to-be summer skin.

You were suddenly a flashing light, fading faster and farther than I had ever allowed.  You were suddenly nothing to hold on to.

I'm tracing circles on my palm, noticing again how simple it is to feel.
