Bonus Fun Ghoul / Frank snake!
Jungle Carpet Python!
- Morelia Spilota cheynei
-Native to rainforests in Queensland, Australia
- They aren’t venomous! Pythons use constriction to kill prey!

I got to pet a snake today!! His name is Jeremy and he’s a 7-year-old jungle carpet python and his scales feel so nice hehe
Had Daisy out and about for some exploring time while I folded laundry, she decided it was time for her to go back and climbed all the way into her tank by herself! Not sure if she’s a smart little lady or if she just wanted to climb, but she went into her usual spot immediately after so she knew where she wanted to go…
You’ve really gotta admire how amazing they are at climbing! I grew up in Queensland Australia, where carpet pythons are most commonly found in the wild, and these guys would often climb into peoples roofs to eat the rats. Now that I own one as a pet I can totally see how they managed to always be inside of people’s roofs, these guys just love to climb!
Not convinced she’s exactly “clever”, as adorable as she is she seems to have a few brain cells lacking. Something she does that none of my other snakes seem to do is that she just sometimes forgets to fully suck in her tongue- like when she tongue flicks sometimes she just leaves 2 little forks poking out. She’s not sick or unwell in any way, she’s just a weirdo. I love her for it though!
Honestly, I think these are a fantastic snake to own for anyone who’s either very well educated in this exact species or someone at an intermediate level in terms of snake owning. She’s honestly such a fantastic snake and has been a huge joy so far! Plus, look at the beautiful contrast on her pattern…
A beautiful snake just chillin' with his head sticking out of his cave
This is my jungle Carpet Python, Dolores. I adopted her from a friend 9 years ago. She is a very vocal snake (aka she makes a lot of noise because she's fussy and doesn't like to be handled all that much). Snakes don't have vocal chords, but they can make a lot of hissing, bubbling, sighing, huffing noises. (She has a messed up jaw birth deformity so sometimes she can't keep spit in her mouth 🤷♀️)
So basically she inspired how my Ghouls verbally emote in my work.
She has a much bigger enclosure now but this is the prettiest photo of her from 2018.
Harmony I: Morelia spilota
This jungle carpet python is the first of a four-part series highlighting the most misunderstood animals in the world, with some complementary colored flowers to make their beauty really stand out.
Any other snake fans out there? What's your favorite species?
Time for Toph's annual "NO DOGS ALLOWED" photoshoot!
