Music and chatter filled your ears, slightly overwhelming you as you sat in the dimly lit restaurant surrounded by your friends. You looked over at Calum and exchanged a bored look. This evening was supposed to be a fun night out with the boys and their girlfriends and friends. Luke had brought his girlfriend and you couldn’t stand her. You tried to not let it get to you, but it got to you.
She was always so loud and obnoxious, talking over everyone at any given opportunity. She wasn’t very respectful of Luke and was extremely demanding. Worst of all, she immediately saw you, Luke’s best friend, as a threat. Most of your mutual friends somewhat agreed that she wasn’t good for Luke, but none of them knew quite why you hated her so much. Michael always teased that it was because you liked Luke, and while you did have feelings for him, Michael had no idea what you had seen that had caused you to resent her.
As she blabbed on and on about some modeling job she had gotten for some shitty modeling agency, your head began to pound and you not so subtly excused yourself from the table. Ashton shot you a worried look, but you dismissed it with a tense smile and made your way outside for some fresh air. He was the only one of the boys who knew about your feelings for Luke since you had accidentally drunkenly confessed them to him after a party. Ashton was always checking up on you when she was around.
Once outside you had to close your eyes to prevent the tears welling up in your eyes from spilling over. You were reaching your breaking point and you didn’t know how much longer it would be until you exploded.
You heard the back door of the restaurant squeak open and you turned your head to see Luke walking through it, a look of concern on his face.
“Hey, Ashton said I should check on you. Are you alright?” As he stepped closer, you could see the worry in his eyes deepen as he took in your plastered on smile and tear stained cheeks.
“Oh yeah. I just needed some air,” You lied, knowing he wouldn’t believe you. Luke knew you better than anyone else and you both knew you were fooling yourself.
“Y/N, you know you can talk to me about anything,” Luke said, placing his hand on your shoulder comfortingly. You nearly flinched at the touch.
“Can I Luke? Last time I tried to you shut me out,” You snarled at him, regretting your tone, but not the words behind it.
“You’re never going to let that go, are you?” Luke said, sounding exasperated, but you saw the flash of guilt in his eyes.
“No I’m not because I know what I saw and I can’t just forget about it,” You told him, almost crying in frustration.
“Y/N, she would never cheat on me,” Luke said, repeating exactly what he had said to you the last time you had had this conversation.
“Damn it Luke! I saw her! I saw her kissing another guy and then following him into his apartment!” You were yelling now and you felt yourself exploding.
“You’re just jealous of what we have,” He said quietly, not meeting your eyes.
“That’s bullshit and you know it. I know that you don’t want to believe it, but that’s the truth and you know that I would never lie to you about something like this,”
“Why do you care so much? It’s my relationship, Y/N,”
“Because you’re my best friend Luke. It’s my job to care about you,” You told him, almost pleading now.
“She’s not cheating on me,” He said, still not meeting your gaze.
“If that’s what you believe then I’m leaving,” You said storming inside to grab your purse from the table.
“Y/N, wait!” Luke called, following you inside.
“What are you doing?” Crystal asked as you snatched your purse without saying a word and headed for the main entrance.
The last thing you heard before you left was Ashton’s voice saying, “You really fucked up Luke,”

“This is us, Calum. This is our story, from beginning to now, all of my favorite moments. The ups and the downs. The good and the bad. Mostly the good, though, because there’s hardly ever a bad moment with you. I mean, yeah, you fart a lot and it smells, but I’ve gotten used to that.” He pauses to giggle at his own joke again, a sweet, high-pitched sound that make Calum’s heart flutter.
or ashton leaves to work on his documentary and leaves calum recordings of his favorite memories with him
The living room was almost pitch black, only slightly illuminated by the glow of the TV in front of you. It was almost midnight and you were growing more and more angry as the minutes ticked by. Ashton said he’d be home three hours ago and he still hadn’t called or texted to tell you he’d be late. You were also getting really tired, and even though you were mad, you were also worried about Ashton and you wanted to be awake when he got home.
As soon as your eyes began to droop, you heard the door knob jiggling and you jerked awake. You sat up and crossed your arms, waiting for Ashton to enter.
“Y/N?” You heard his voice from the next room, but you didn’t answer.
“Babe?” He asked, entering the living room and turning on the light to find you waiting for him.
“You were supposed to be home three hours ago Ashton,” You said, glaring at him.
“I know, the boys and I lost track of time and I forgot to text you. I’m sorry,” He said, looking at you pleadingly.
“That’s a bullshit excuse and you know it,” You rose from the couch and walked past him and into your shared bedroom.
“Y/N please don’t be mad,” Ashton said following you into the bedroom.
“Yeah it’s a little too late for that,” You told him, rolling your eyes and moving to sit on your bed.
“I didn’t mean to be inconsiderate, I swear I just lost track of time,” He explained, changing out of his band tee and skinny jeans.
“I don’t want to talk about this, I just want to sleep,” You said, laying down and rolling over so you could avoid looking at him.
Ashton turned the lights out and you felt the bed dip as he moved to join you. You laid there in silence, thinking over your conversation and feeling your anger dissipate the longer you thought about it. You knew it was stupid to be mad at Ashton for something as trivial as coming home late, but you were angry at him for not communicating.
“Y/N?” Ashton said quietly, interrupting your thoughts.
“Yeah?” You asked, secretly glad he broke the silence.
“I don’t want you to go to bed angry,”
You rolled over to find him already facing you. He smiled and moved his hands to your face before pressing his lips to yours gently. All your anger melted away and you smiled when the two of you broke apart.
“I’m sorry for not telling you I was going to be home late,” Ashton apologized, smiling slightly.
“I’m sorry for getting so mad at you,” You admitted.
“Y/N!” A large pair of arms wrapped around your shoulders from behind, almost knocking you off balance.
“Ashton, get off of me,” You laughed, trying to lift his arms off your body.
“Nooooooooo Y/N I looooooooove youuuuuuuu!” Ashton slurred into your ear. You rolled your eyes and laughed. His breath reeked of alcohol and you could tell that he was ridiculously drunk.
“Okay babe I think it’s time I take you home,” You said, finally managing to free yourself from his arms. Ashton had convinced you to come to this party that Michael was throwing, but since you didn’t like to drink you always ended up as designated driver. Which you don’t mind, seeing everyone else drunk was usually pretty entertaining for you.
“I don’t wanna go hooooome,” Ashton pouted, draping his arm over your shoulder as you attempted to guide him out of the house.
“I know, but you need to sleep. I have a feeling you won’t be feeling so great in the morning,” You laughed.
“Y/N, you’re so pretty,” He said as you helped him into the passenger seat of your car.
“Thank you babe,” You chuckled, buckling his seatbelt.
The ride back to your shared apartment was filled with Ashton’s drunken compliments and his off key singing. You couldn’t help but giggle at your goofy boyfriend as he tried to serenade you with some cheesy love song he made up as he went along.
When you finally arrived back at your apartment, Ashton stumbled out of the car and inside before you could try to help him. You followed him to your bedroom where he collapsed on the bed fully clothed.
“Ashton, you need to change into pajamas before you go to sleep,” You told him, trying to pull his boots off his feet.
“Y/N,” He whined, reaching out to try to grab you.
“What do you want?” You asked exasperatedly. Instead of answering, Ashton grabbed your arm and pulled you down on top of him. You shrieked and tried to escape, but even in his drunken state Ashton had a solid grip on your waist.
“Cuddle with me,” He whispered, his eyes halfway shut.
“Ashton, I need to change first,” You said, trying to wiggle out of his grip.
“No, I want to cuddle,” He said, holding onto you firmly.
“Ashton-” Before you could finish your sentence, Ashton cut you off by pressing his lips to yours in a sloppy kiss. His mouth tasted of alcohol and he was kind of slobbering on you, but you smiled into the kiss. Even if Ashton was out of his mind drunk, he still wanted to kiss you and hold you and just that fact made your heart swell.
You were drawn to the music coming from the music room down the hall from your English classroom. No one else in the class seemed to be paying attention, which you couldn’t understand because the song was so beautiful. You quickly asked your teacher if you could go to the bathroom and then hurried out of class.
So talk, talk, talk
Well tell me what I want, want, want
If I don’t look into your eyes
It’s almost like a perfect lie
You followed the sound down the hallway and poked your head through the music room door to see Luke Hemmings playing his guitar and singing. You knew Luke from a couple classes you had to together this semester, but you had no idea he could sing like this.
“Luke?” You said, once he had stopped playing. The blonde haired boy turned around, startled.“You scared me,” Luke said, eyes wide.
“Sorry, I just heard you singing from down the hall. You sound amazing,” You gushed, moving to sit in a chair next to him.
“Uh, thanks,” He said, not meeting your gaze. You just smiled.
You couldn’t deny, Luke was attractive. Something about his blue eyes and shy smile made your heart skip a beat. And his amazing voice was just the cherry on top.
“Could you play me another song?” You asked, smiling as Luke fiddled around with his guitar. He looked at you in surprise.
“Uh, sure,” He muttered before beginning to strum again
I like the summer rain
I like the sounds you make
We put the world away
We get so disconnected
“That was awesome! How do you write stuff like that?” You asked, awe struck.
“It’s easy when you have a beautiful girl in front of you for inspiration,” Luke said quietly. You were taken aback by his words.
“Uh-” You began, but Luke interrupted.
“Shit, I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have said that,” He said, standing up abruptly. You grabbed his arm to stop him. He turned back to look at you.
“Don’t be sorry,” You said, staring into his eyes, incredibly aware of how close you were.
“Can I kiss you?” Luke asked quietly, leaning in slowly. You nodded and he pressed his lips to yours gently. You smiled into the kiss and wrapped your arms around his neck.
“Was that okay?” He asked, looking into your eyes.
Instead of answering, you smiled and then leaned up and kissed him again.

Dinner with the boys was always something you looked forward to, you loved getting to chat with their girlfriends and you knew how much Ashton enjoyed it. Tonight was extra fun though, Luke had invited his friend Matt and Matt’s girlfriend Claire and you were all gathered at Michael and Crystal’s house.
You and Matt hit it off instantly, as it turned out you had gone to the same high school. You were having tons of fun chatting with him, and everyone else seemed to be enjoying themselves, but for some reason your boyfriend was sulking next to you.
“Hey Ash, are you okay?” Calum asked, laughing at Ashton’s dull expression.
“I’m fine,” He snapped, glaring off into space. You frowned, confused by his reaction, but decided to ignore it.
“So Matt, what did you do after high school?” You asked, turning back to face him.
“Y/N, can I talk to you in the kitchen?” Ashton asked, not giving Matt the opportunity to answer.
“Uh sure?” You said confusedly, standing and following your boyfriend to the kitchen.
As soon as the door shut behind you, Ashton slammed you against it and crashed his lips onto yours. You were surprised, but pleasantly, even though you were still confused.
“Ashton what the hell?” You asked when you broke apart.
“You’re my girlfriend, not Matt’s. I hope that kiss reminded you of that,” He said, before storming back into the dining room.
You stood stunned for a moment before grinning and following him out. You liked jealous Ashton.
