Animalogue + RPM Orchestra (Oct. 18 2013)
"Animalogue is a multidisciplinary performance. It features three dancers combining elements of classical ballet, animal posturing, and folklórico dance, with a live musical score performed by RPM Orchestra. Multicultural in scope and primal by nature; examining animal hierarchy (i.e. "the food chain"), social status control issues, gender politics (from role reversal to androgyny) with elements of our analog past that transforms into digital-future. Animalogue is made possible by a grant from Roosevelt Row CDC, as part of its 2013 ARTS projects series. This event is free and open to all. Cited as "the Southwest's premier live-film score troupe", RPM Orchestra is a proto-industrial Americana act; its music has been released on Sirona Records (France), Absence of Wax (Los Angeles), and suRRism-Phonoethics (Germany). Debra Minghi is a movement director, choreographer and dancer whose work is performed internationally. Her dance choreography has premiered at the Merce Cunningham Studio Theater in New York, the Columbia College Dance Theater in Chicago, the Washington D.C. Post Office and Olympic Stadium in Montreal, Canada. Debra’s intensive studies of Butoh in Japan and Folkloric Ballet in Mexico City have extended the opportunity for her to paus de duex with RPM Orchestra for numerous cutting edge Phoenix art projects. Dancers Amanda Summers and Omar Omador have completed studies with the Sacramento Ballet, as well as study and perform Latin Rhythms, Afro Cuban and Cecchetti Ballet with Debra Minghi. Animalogue is the second collaborative effort between Minghi and the orchestra, following their BUTOH + MUSIC performance of 2012"
