Been printing some of the pride flags i plan to give away at milwaukee pridefest next weekend, I still have some more flags in the mail that are supposed to come soon but so far ive been getting at the aroace, trans, queer and mini mini (my mistake) progress pride flags.

If any of you happen to be going to milwaukee pridefest on saturday the 6th, I will be there with tons of free flags like these! Look for the freak with the curly hair and rainbow harness.

It’s 414 Day also known as Milwaukee Day!

Officially proclaimed in 2012 by former Mayor Tom Barrett, this city and statewide holiday is dedicated to celebrating the city we love. It’s a fun, local holiday inspired by Milwaukee’s area code, 414 (i.e., April 14). The day focuses on honoring Milwaukee's unique culture and spirit; over the years, it has evolved into a vibrant community event. 

Each year, local organizations host festivities that include food, music, and activities. These are often offered at a budget-friendly price of $4.14, making them accessible to everyone. The festivities highlight local businesses and bring the community together. It’s a fantastic opportunity for both locals and visitors to enjoy what the Brew City has to offer! 

Some of this year’s activities include a festival in the Deer District and a party at the Harley-Davidson Museum. Also taking place at City Hall is the 6th annual 414 Day flag drop by 414 Milwaukee. This year, they collaborated with the Milwaukee Indian Community School and will be debuting a flag that honors the city’s rich heritage.

The featured images come from our first-edition copy of Milwaukee: Hometown Metropolis by Milwaukee's unofficial historian John Gurda. The book shines a spotlight on all the wonderful things Milwaukee has to offer, from brewery tours and baseball games to museums and parks. Cityscapes Books, a division of the Pagoda Group publishing company, published it in Brookline, MA, in 2014. John Gurda is a writer and historian based in Milwaukee who has authored 22 books. He has dedicated much of his career to exploring Milwaukee’s rich history.

If you're in the Milwaukee, WI, area I highly recommend you check out Tabletop Bookshelf's brick-and-mortar location in Walker's Point! They just opened on Saturday the 21st, and the grand opening was PACKED! The line of people went all the way down the street and around the corner at one point!

I was one of the first 100 customers, so I got a Founding Patron card that gets me 10% off in-store until the end of the year! 😁

The store's physical location is fucking awesome; they have great displays of TTRPGs (nearly ALL indie games but they have slightly bigger-time stuff like Vaesen as well), fantasy/horror/folklore fiction, non-fiction relating to TTRPGs (ie map-making, history of alchemy, how to create TTRPG mechanics, etc), board games, journals, etc.

If you can't get to Milwaukee, definitely check out their website. I've bought (way too many tbh, if that's possible 😅) solo and 2P TTRPGs as well as a few group and GMless TTRPGs for when I feel like getting into GMing/facilitating.

No, I am not being paid for this post; I just really fucking love this store and what they do for the indie gaming scene. If you create TTRPGs, definitely shoot the owner a message on the website to see about possibly getting your game/s stocked in the store.

If you need a solo TTRPG suggestion that the store carries, my personal favorite is Cassie Mothwin's Carved by the Garden, a folk horror solo journaling RPG wherein you are drawn to the woods each day, but the woods are out to get you. You determine your fate using a deck of standard playing cards, a d6, and a Jenga tower! It's very cool.
