Craw Wurm

If a tree falls down in a forest, does it make a sound? Yes, if it was in the path of a Craw Wurm. The original wurm, from right back from Alpha, where a 6/4 for 6 was pretty good, apparently?

Here illustrated by Daniel Gelon, this wurm has had two other artworks since and was last printed way back in 2010. Apparently it’s not up to scratch nowadays (looking at you, Vorstclaw) but maybe one day there’ll be a format where having your creature slightly easier to kill than a Colossal Dreadmaw Cowl Prowler is relevant somehow.

Fun fact: Heather Hudson is Daniel Gelon’s partner, so it’s nice to see both of their interpretations of this tree-hating monstrosity.

Funnily enough, none of these artworks have represented it crushing trees. A shame, though I suppose that would raise the old question of ‘look at it, it’s clearly trampling, why doesn’t it have trample?’

Yavimaya Wurm

She’s just your average six-four

but would trample right over craw

the biggest smile you ever saw

until she met a dreadmaw!

What more is there to say, really? The above glorious (and so, so joyful) art is by Steven Belledin (more from him later for sure), while the original is by Melissa A. Benson, illustrator of the original, iconic Shivan Dragon art. I love both versions.
