Restore that floor! 🔨 #69daystogo #rescueandrestore #floor #diy (at Odd Frog)
Even through all the stress this is causing, and with how much we both have going on, we're making it work just like we always have. Thanks for always being the reason I smile before I fall asleep, and being the reason I push myself through the days without you to make it to the days with you. I love you, Shawn. Forever and always 💙 #HisBulma #MyVegeta #69DaysToGo #YeakelPutsARingOnIt

Ped-Yeah?
One difficult patient.
It was my first day in the Pediatric ward, which more or less translates as my first day in Pediatrics, as the previous 10 days were spent in the OPD where no duty exists, and the previous month was away from our home base -- in NCH, where duties are long and lonely.
It was my first day in the Pediatric ward. I was on deck. I received a patient, someone known to the service and to most of the previous ward group. She was endorsed as a difficult patient. She truly was one.
She was moody as moody can get. I’d enter the room one moment and she’d let me monitor her effortlessly. Then the next time I pay her a visit, she’d shout at me “Bastos ka! Ayoko sayo!”. She nearly threw things as she refused to be monitored. Her eyebrows fused the moment she sees me from her glass doors.
I had to be creative. I let her BP herself, get her own temperature, like it’s any other kid’s kind of game. It worked. Then I worked my way. I played with her, talked to her, scribbled with her. We created imaginary friends, songs with incomprehensible lyrics, and stories only we could understand. Finally, I won her over. After 10 days, she’d let me enter the room regardless of what she’s doing. I would babysit her when her parents had to do adult stuff aka paper works. And when she was about to go home, she asked me to take a picture of us and told me, “Embrace!”. It was a touching moment. Actually, all my visits to her and all our other patients are.
“Cure sometimes, treat often, comfort always”
One of our residents told us to practice spending time with our patients, because as we climb up the ladder of our medical education, we get busier and with busy comes more excuses not to do so. It should become a habit, so much so that you look for it, that it becomes a part of who you are. It’s disappointing to think that I haven’t done that for the past 9 months. It came natural with pedia. Still, I should’ve at least tried before. Patients indeed are the best teacher, and this is true not only for the theoretical aspect of medicine, but also on the more human part of it. To comfort is to empathize and to empathize is not simply to understand, but to be with them through it all.
Ped-Yeah?
It’s too early to say anything yet. But it surely is one of my more favorite rotations. It’s one of those rotations where I don’t have to drag myself to the hospital, dreading every single day, and counting the number of hours ‘til my shift’s over. Whether it’s the lack of a proper quarters where I could peacefully stay, or it’s just my innate fondness of children, I am thankful for every minute spent with my patients.
Thank you for inspiring me as a doctor, and inspiring me to get back to writing. Haha!
So excited!!!😍 #travelling#bestfriends#amsterdam#holiday#unilife#thesearethedays#squadholiday#69daystogo#excitement
