“Shhh,” Liam hissed, looking around the coffee shop to see if anyone had heard. “Silence, Mase. Shut up. Not another word. Nada. Zip it.”
Mason snorted. “Relax, Dunbar. Theo’s in class right now. He’s not here to hear about your monster crush on him.”
“Mason!” Liam shouted, waving his hands. “Stop saying it out loud!”
“Why, Liam? Literally everyone but Theo knows you’re in love with him, it’s not like I’m saying something shiny and new here,” Mason said, taking a sip of his coffee while he watched his best friend splutter.
“Still—”
“You’re what?”
Both Liam and Mason went still at the voice that came from a little ways behind Liam. Mason’s eyes went wide, regret flicking across his face.
Liam turned around slowly, horror washing over him as he found Theo staring at him in shock.
“Uh…”
“Well, this is my cue,” Mason said, gathering up his stuff in record time before nodding at Liam. “Li, good luck. Uh, Theo? Sorry? Or maybe not sorry? Text me how sorry I should be. Okay, bye.”
Mason scurried away, booking it out of the cafe and leaving Theo and Liam staring at each other.
