7 Principals of Hermetic Philosophy
Principal #1: Engage in An Intimate Relationship with God (December 2012)
Principal #1 Engage in an Intimate Relationship with God
Last month I shared with you my plans to launch a self-improvement and motivational speaking business called Tirza Motivates: Encouraging You to Live YOUR Fulfilled Life. I wish to thank you as I have been overwhelmed by the well wishes and encouraging messages of support. Receiving such positive feedback motivates me to move forward in the pursuit of this important work. It was last month that I also revealed to you what I understand to be the seven key principals to living a fulfilled life. These seven principals will be my guiding source of inspiration for women as I work with them to discover and live their fulfilled life.
Why these seven principals? I am confident that any woman (or man) who is willing and ready to make the commitment will uncover the extraordinary person they were created to be—one of great value and self-worth, and will in the end, achieve a fulfilled life. It worked for me and I’ve seen firsthand its impact on others. Over the next several months I will dedicate this newsletter to the seven principals. My wish is that by providing you with a snapshot of each of the principals you will reflect and assess whether you are truly living YOUR fulfilled life. My hope is that you will identify your strengths and celebrate, but also recognize areas in your life that can be further enhanced so you can develop a plan and take action to achieve YOUR fulfilled life. I invite you to keep in touch with me. Call or email me if you have a question or just need to discuss what you are learning. It is my goal to provide you with a safe and comfortable environment and of course anything that you share will remain confidential. Principal #1 Engage in an Intimate Relationship with God
“Your intimacy with God determines the impact of your life” Charles Stanley
God is THE source of your fulfillment. God is your creator and the source of your joy and strength. God is your healer, friend, and provider. Your Fulfilled Life begins and continues with Him. He will grant you blessings bigger than you can ever imagine. He will take you places you never thought you could go. It is God who will bless you with that husband you’ve been looking for, the children you’ve been dreaming of, or a career that allows you to control your destiny. Yes! God wants all this for you too. But, there is a major requirement to receiving these blessings, you must first:
Acknowledge God, and serve Him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD sees every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever 1 Chronicles 28:8-10
Yes, God requires that we put in the work and seek Him with our whole heart. He wishes for us to be completely devoted to Him. He wants for us to put Him first, to acknowledge Him, praise Him, love Him, and be spiritually intimate with Him. Your return on investment: PEACE, JOY, DIRECTION, and the desires of your heart. Engaging in an intimate relationship with God is so much more than attending church on Sunday morning. It is about continuously pursuing God to really know Him, understand His ways, and be transformed in His liking. This means changing behaviors and habits that stagnate growth and interfere with your intimacy with God. It’s about living a life style that embraces righteousness, faithfulness and obedience, and making a decision to do things God’s way and not your way. It’s taking that leap of faith and determining that you will change and not go back to the way things use to be, the things that are displeasing to your creator. God has outlined the plans for your life and He has for you many great gifts that are ready to be unleashed for the benefit of His kingdom. But, your commitment to Him is so critical to receiving those gifts. An individual, whose lifestyle reflects an intimate relationship with God, diligently works at maintaining it. It is very similar to a successful relationship between a man and woman. Each person makes the investment so the relationship works. They compromise for each other, demonstrate their commitment and love, and constantly work at being a better partner for each other. It’s not always perfect but each person works at it and believes that the investment is worth it and will be a blessing to them. Take this Quick Assessment: To inspire in you further thinking about this principal, I created a check list that reflects the behavior and heart of one who has an intimate relationship with God. Take a few quiet moments to reflect and complete this quick assessment. Simply rank yourself on a scale of 1 to 3 for each of the statements below. 1 = an area that needs a great deal of improvement 2 = you realize its importance and on occasion put it into practice 3= you have a strong understanding of it and have experienced its blessings
Establishing a powerful prayer life
Planting sacrificial seeds: fasting & tithing
Learning God’s will and plan for my life
Growing in faith, hope and trust in God
Living a disciplined, sacrificial life and operating in obedience
Renewing my mind and lifestyle to be more aligned with God’s way
Finding peace in my life by making decisions that please God
I have had an “encounter” with God
I rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to move in my life
Be Encouraged… This assessment is in no way scientific however, it does exemplify the behaviors, approaches and attitudes of one who has an intimate relationship with God. Additionally, this assessment is not meant to make you feel discouraged. No one no matter how intimate their relationship with God is will and most likely never master these behaviors. We are all a work in progress and an intimate relationship with God simply takes time. What is so wonderful about the progression of our growth is God’s patience and gentleness throughout the process. He is just happy to have our attention and see that we are making the effort, and with that He will meet us just where we are and love us deeply in our journey. So What’s Next? Today I encourage you to make a commitment to your spiritual development. Why? Because your tomorrow begins with today! Choose at least two areas from the check list that you ranked as a 2 or 3, and then identify some specific, but realistic actions you can take to grow your relationship with God. Let’s look at an example: Say you decide to “Establish a powerful prayer life.” You may take action steps that include: 1) studying the scripture that sheds light on prayer, the blessings of prayer; 2) you may purchase a book about praying; and 3) you may develop a prayer schedule so you are in the presence of God. The more you pray, the more powerful it will be. You may also study areas like the power of the Holy Spirit as a true prayer life is frequently visited by the Holy Spirit. This video of HFI talks about the psychological context of Persuasion, emotion and trust in interaction design. Dr. Susan Weinschenk compared the can do factor (can I find the info? can i find the button at the interface? ) with the will do (when I find the button will I press? ). Susan says that you can go further at user experience if you think about the seven principals of user engagement:
If people have too many choices they won`t choose at all (although people will tell us that they wants lots of choice, if you give them too many choices they freeze!)
Social validation. If people are uncertain, they will look to others to decide what to do. Also said that people believes more in peers contacts than in academic or professional experts
Scarcity. If something is unavailable it seems to be more valuable. "Fear of losses are trigger that will take us to action."
Conscious sensitiveness to food, sex or danger. It`s also a trigger for action.
Power of faces. The fusiform facial area of our brain only process faces and our brains a predisposed to pay attention to faces. Researchs shows that people focus at the eyes, so make sure that people looks at the camera if you want to use people pictures on you site.
Story. The brain process information best in story form.
Commitment. Keep asking you user and they will get more and more loyal with your site.
