The Tesoro Olivant Pro is headset with a straightforward design and an exotic name. The Olivant comes in two variants, standard and Pro with the Pro featuring virtual 7.1 Surround Sound. I have never been a fan of virtual surround sounds as earlier takes on surround sound from the Logitech G930 seems to distort sound, but for those who want a home theater on your head experience, this will be a welcome feature.
The Tesoro Olivant Pro features both USB and 3.5mm headphone and microphone jacks. Having a detachable microphone means Olivant Pro can be used during a daily commute as a high quality headphone without having an annoying fold away or fixed microphone.
The Olivant Pro boasts a noise filtering, unidirectional microphone which is a great feature to have at a LAN party or if there are guests over when one is gaming. The microphone boom itself being flexible is helpful in the event the microphone starts to cancel out your voice, a possible issue with noise filtering microphones.

The packaging has a distinct black and purple styling that make the packaging stand out from others on a shelf. The box of the Tesoro Olivant Pro has a window large enough to see the right ear. The sample sent to us was significantly damaged during shipping to no fault of the manufacturer. The packing did keep the Tesoro Olivant Pro safe during the unfortunate incident(s) during transit.
The front side of the Olivant Pro’s packaging boasts 50mm “gaming-class” driver units, lightweight ergonomic design, detachable microphone, and compatibility with consoles and portable devices. The left side of the box shows the connector and adapters.
The rear of the Tesoro Olivant Pro packaging shows specifications regarding the speaker drivers and microphone impedance and sensitivity. A list of features similar to that on the Tesoro website is shown in several languages.
The box contents hold the Tesoro headset with braided cable, detachable microphone, USB adapter with in-line controls, manuals, and 3.5mm jack splitters. The simplicity of the packaging made this un-boxing experience a pleasant one.

[section_title title=A Closer Look at Tesoro OLIVANT PRO]
A Closder Look at the Tesoro Olivant Pro
The Tesoro Olivant Pro’s headband has the Tesoro brand engraved on it with barely visible imprints on each ear. From afar there doesn’t seem to be much brand recognition which in the event you want to customize the Olivant Pro.
The Tesoro Olivant Pro’s headband is self-adjusting which makes is preferable to headsets that require adjustments. In addition to the time saving benefit, the self adjusting headset is less likely to catch my hair the way manual adjusting headsets do. The Tesoro Olivant Pro is made mostly out of plastic with the top of the adjustable headband being aluminum.
The bottom left portion of the Tesoro Olivant Pro has a hole for the adjustable microphone boom. The included detachable microphone boom locks in place with a twist and is very well secured. The microphone is easily adjustable and is resistant to all but the most severe bumps.
The cable on the Tesoro Olivant Pro and adapters are braided. Usually cables like this are not as flexible and create rigid bends when twisted or manipulated the wrong way, but the Olivant Pro feels like a braided string that is easy to lay to the side while I move about my desk.
The USB adapter of the Tesoro Olivant Pro has an in-line remote control with volume adjustment and microphone mute button. A muted microphone is indicated by a blue LED on the in-line remote control.
[section_title title=Final Thoughts]
Final Thoughts
The ear cups on the Tesoro Olivant Pro feel soft and seems to mold itself over my ear. While the cushion doesn’t seem as durable as compared to other headsets I’ve used, they more than compensate for this in comfort. In addition to the softness and comfort, the Olivant Pro is also pleasantly light at 1.3 lbs.
I have a penchant for wireless headsets since I tend to like moving from one room to another when on call with people and turn 180 degrees when I need to reach for snacks or beverages. Fortunately, the 3.0m cable length was able to allow unrestricted motion for most activities at my gaming desk. The 3.0m length is possible with the USB adapter.
When first I first tried to test the Tesoro Olivant Pro, the headset was detected but failed to install drivers on the from USB 3.0 ports on my desktop. I have tried the drivers from Tesoro website and the device was marked as incompatible. Strange thing is that USB port works with USB 2.0 and 3.0 flash drives as well as a wireless dongle for a Logitech headset. The Tesoro Olivant Pro was properly recognized on USB ports on the rear I/O panel of my motherboard.
The USB adapter for the Tesoro Olivant Pro produced adequate sound quality in both surround sound and stereo and my voice comes in quite clear. When I attempted to make conference calls using the 3.5mm connectors, I noticed an excessive amount of static after a prolonged period of time. This problem did not get resolved from re-inserting the 3.5mm connector at either the splitter or at the I/O panel on my desktop. The microphone on the Tesoro Pro does not seem to be moving on its own but does appear to need constant readjustment as I was either becoming too loud or quiet during conversations. This phenomenon occurred on both Skype and Google Hangout. After a few days, the microphone stopped working altogether with the 3.5mm splitter. The microphone works when the 3.5mm port when plugged into a combo audio port without the headphone microphone splitter.
The Tesoro Olivant Pro feels like a great headset for an internet cafe or LAN party situation. The styling of the Olivant Pro is pretty barebone and is great for anyone who doesn’t want to be associated with name brands or would like to customize their own headset with stickers or dye. A great benefit is the option for a removable microphone that would allow a person to use this headset as over the head headphones with great sound quality.

Tesoro OLIVANT A2 PRO VIRTUAL 7.1 GAMING HEADSET Review The Tesoro Olivant Pro is headset with a straightforward design and an exotic name. The Olivant comes in two variants, standard and Pro with the Pro featuring virtual 7.1 Surround Sound.
The new DS502 gaming headset from MSI is unique in that it seems to be feature-heavy with 7.1 virtual surround audio, inline control, omnidirectional microphone and 40mm drivers but quite physically lightweight at only 405 grams so that gamers will not feel as strained after long periods of use. The DS502 uses an open ear design which is ideal for gaming and with the CMedia audio processor via USB, users can tailor the DS502’s functions via a customized MSI Xear utility.
MSRP is only $69.99 and should hit most major retailers soon. This move from MSI makes sense considering they are well deep into the gaming scene and instead of relying on partners such as Steelseries like they have done in the past with special edition headsets, they have full control of the product featureset:
Interface USB Dimension (mm) Ø6.0 × 3.0mm (Mic) Weight (g) 405 Speaker Sensitivity(S.P.L) 105±3dB @ 1KHz Drivers Ø40mm x 2 Speaker Impedance 20Hz-20KHz Mic Sensitivity -36±3dB @ at 1KHz Mic Impedance ≤2.2kΩ Cable Length 2.0m Directivity Omnidirectional
