God I’m like, so bummed out about the Made in Abyss game lol. Cause like, a Made in Abyss game sounds hype pretty much inherently? Like I’m absolutely not the first person to express that sentiment - that this world and its mechanics would make for a really fucking exciting video game. And like we’re actually getting that! But it just looks so... depressingly budget. I know that most anime games tend to be budget, it’s not like Made in Abyss has any reason to be an exception to that rule, but. You look at some of the views in the Made in Abyss manga, and in its anime adaptation. And then you look at the cheap graphics and pathetic render distances of this game and it can’t even compare, and that sucks!

That feeling extends to the environments themselves outside of just graphics. Made in Abyss manga is impossibly pretty, and the anime went ahead and added even more locations, stuff to look at, things for Riko and Reg to explore. A video game could take that even further - really give us a massively expansive and “complete” feeling abyss. But trailers and screenshots just show locations from the anime lol. Nothing new, no hidden corners, just stuff we’ve all seen before but now it looks worse.

There’s also how the Curse of the Abyss seems to be being handled? It basically just seems to cause varying levels of debuffs to your stamina and hunger metre, which make it harder to keep your health high without obviously - as well as I guess stopping in place to puke a bit and seeing what barely qualify as hallucinations. Basically just stuff working in service of making dying easier. But then you just respawn at last save or whatever! That’s so boring! The Curse is this utterly terrifying and uncaring phenonemon that makes the abyss truly a place of no return! And in this game it’s just some slight debuffs that at worst are gonna send you back a savepoint and cost a bit of progress! That’s just annoying, not scary! Not even fucking kidding this should be a game where if you die it deletes your save file - that’s it. You weren’t good enough for the Abyss. You couldn’t face it. You don’t get another shot (but like you do it’s just you’ve gotta start from the beginning). I easily get why that might be cringe but bro it’s the fucking abyss it’s this force of nature beyond our comprehension, a place so impossibly intimidating but that we’re drawn to anyway due to its mystery and the sense of adventure burning in our hearts and eyes! The stakes should be as high as losing your fucking save file so we’re not commodifying the fucking thing!

That’s all I think. Rant over. I’m still sorta interested in buying this game but idkkkkkkkkkkkk I really fucking wish it looked better aaaaaaaa

Sonic X episode 24 was honestly weaker than I remembered it being - Sonic being unable to stop running and the gang going through all sorts of shenanigans to stop him sounds fun on paper but it was just weirdly kinda dull. Oh well. We’re pretty close to the end of this arc which hey that’s exciting.
