I reserved seats on the right-hand side of the plane and brought the IR camera on board because I was hoping for this, and it worked so damn well. Probably the coolest photo I’ve taken in my life so far. This is the Strait of Gibraltar. The division between the Eurasian and African plates runs right through it. Europe’s the landmass in the upper half of the image, Africa is the lower half. The Mediterranean Sea is to the right, and the Atlantic Ocean opens to the left. And look how paper-thin our atmosphere appears. This was absolutely awesome. <3
