YO any advice on retubing an early '70s V4? Mine still has the original Magnavox tubes in it and it's working fine but I'm worried they're cooked because of their age. I know there's a lot of controversy around how similar new 7027s are to vintage ones and weather new ones are basically glorified 6L6s, so if it's worth getting some NOS 7027s then I'm not against that.

When my V4 was retubed before John at EAE sold it to me, he recommended Tung Sol 7581As and I really dug how they sounded. A lot of the V4 guys I know are running those.

40 watt fixed bias 1x12 combo w/Celestion Gold speaker. Built for a customer who wanted maximum headroom and power in a small package, this amplifier features a USA made GE 5AR4 rectifier, 7581A output tubes, 6SL7 preamp tubes, volume/tone and push/pull master volume. I love building with octal preamp tubes - 6SL7s provide plenty of crunch and 6SN7s can be used for the cleanest possible tone. They can also be mixed to taste. Classictone transformers throughout. A reasonable plate voltage of about 430VDC and proper circuitry means this amplifier can be fitted with 5881s, 6L6GCs, KT66s, and even EL34s for various output wattages and tones. It takes the willingness to turn a few dials but the versatility is more than meets the eye!
