I’ve said it before and I will say again: If you learned that John Brown was insane, you were lied to. There is no evidence of this. No one who ever met him--even the slave-owners he tried to kill or the slave-owners who executed him--thought he was anything but a totally rational human being.

John Brown being crazy is something history books started saying in ~1910 because the people who wrote them literally could not comprehend the idea of a White man having empathy for Black people.
