So you presumably know that “thou” was once a word in the English language. And if you’re actually interested in such things you’re probably also aware that the “y” in “Ye Olde Tavern” doesn’t make a "y” sound but a “th” sound and Y just so happened to be the closest letter to thorn (þ) in the typography.

So this is something I just realized yesterday: what word do you get when you replace the th in “thou” with a y?
