There is a lot of Intel news popped up as usual over the past 24 hours. We are going to be starting things out with the Intel’s 7960X which is leaked out on Geekbench. Intel’s 7960X is an i9 processor on X299 platform. We have results for it in terms of benchmarks but perhaps more crucially because these are engineering samples. We actually have some early specifications which gives us insight into cache.

The i9 7960X features 16 cores and 32 threads thanks to hyper-threading. 5238 for the Single-core performance whereas the Multi-core receives 33672. The processor is being reported at 2.51 ghz.
The test system has the following specifications:
Motherboard: ASUS PRIME X299-Deluxe
CPU: Core i9-7960X (16 Cores / 32 Threads)
CPU Clock: 2.51 GHz (All-Core)
L1 Data Cache and Instruction Cache of 32 KB x 16, L2 Cache is 1 Megabyte because of the new caching scheme because they distributed all the cache, they have 32 GB of Memory.
Comparison of Intel Core i9-7920X against ThreadRipper 1950X CPU’s:
For those wondering we will do a basic comparison of Intel Core i9-7920X Geekbench results with the upcoming ThreadRipper 1950X CPU. It too has 16 Cores 32 Threads but they are running at a slightly high clock speed with this engineering sample running at 3.4 ghz. But we still have Windows 10, 32 GB of RAM, the main thing however is that the Single-Core score is 4074, the Multi-Core score is 26768.
There is couple of things to take into consideration, the first is that we are going to see 2.5 ghz for Intel. It’s much more likely that we are going to see around 3.0 ghz mark. We are talking about Base Clocks, one can easily add another 700 mhz for turbo but turbo speeds are adding yet another layer of uncertainty when we are not even sure the base clock here. So, we are going to keep things very simple, what that means is that with X299 platform we are going to see performance increase a little bit more for this processor.
