NVIDIA RTX 5090 GPU released at a $2k

Most are selling for $3,500 now

Supposedly the next restock in 2026 will see their prices raised to ~$5000. Same for AMD cards. Safe to say thats well beyond the price range of even upper middle class folks these days.

And the lower tier 5000 series GPUs like 5070ti are going to get discontinued soon which leaves only the higher powered (and drastically higher priced) cards available to what will presumably be a small pool of individuals who are able to buy the cards.

We're gonna enter 2030 and even a "high end" PC gamer is gonna have a GPU aged 7+ years or older.

I am genuinely anxious about what the fuck game companies are expected to do when literally nobody is able to upgrade their PCs for the next 4+ years (at least). DLSS/FSR is only gonna get us so far and even new games today require the "new" GPUs in order to be able to access the new versions of DLSS/FSR which help improve performance better than ever (ironic how we need the new top end cards to use the best versions of DLSS/FSR)

Obviously GPU manufacturers are seeing most of their profits come from industrial/bulk contracts with Tech and AI companies that need GPUs. The global RAM shortage going on for the foreseeable future means GPUs will be more expensive than ever to produce even if NVDIA/AMD didnt have big contracts with AI companies.

Compared to profits from the big bulk contracts with Tech/AI companies, NVIDIA and AMDs obligations to the gaming industry (both gamers+gaming companies) are minimal so they can afford to lose that branch of their business model (unfortunately) and still keep a profit due to the colossal demands for GPUs from AI/Big Tech.

We're either gonna see game companies deciding to "plateau" graphical fidelity for the rest of the current gaming generation + the next one or were gonna have to see some WILD technical innovations akin to DLSS but even more significant.

In 2030 nobody will be able to afford a $1,400 PS6 and certainly nobody will be able to afford a $5,000-6,000 GPU.

Within a few years, the games industry is gonna have to put a hard stop on their long running expection that gamers will just buy the new PC hardware/pro consoles so they can play GTA VI, Elden Ring 2, Battlefield 7, in 4k 120fps, etc. etc. Graphics are gonna have to plateau or the AAA as we know it gaming is gonna die.
