My Journey Through Digital Marketing
My original Goal for the the Digital Marketing course was to learn how to market my business from a holistic standpoint. I knew a lot about marketing from a corporate standpoint but I feel it is very different when you are a smaller business. You lack the funding that a bigger business has. Nevertheless less that does not mean your marketing would be any less interesting and profitable than a bigger business you have to make sure you market to the right clientele just as big businesses does. Before taking this class I was very narrow-minded and old school when it came to the marketing strategies. I only knew about television advertisements, radio advertisements and some social media advertisements. Taking this class has truly allowed me to go more in-depth not only in educational learning but personal learning as well. I feel that the learnings I received from this class will allow me to not only be hands on in my own business but to assist others where I see the need in their own businesses. This class has taught me to know my demographic and who to truly market to. My goal in this class was met and exceeded because learning how to truly utilize my social media platforms and knowing what SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is was major for myself. I was not aware of the term SEO (Search Engine Optimization) nor what it was used for. I now know that it ties hand in hand with my marketing as a whole and it ensures that my business is properly searchable. Having long tail phrases is very important when utilizing SEO marketing. In week 2 we were able to create an editorial calendar in which I find it very useful to my business. Creating a campaign objective and mockups are also important because those are some of the first things your clientele sees when presenting your business to them and it can honestly make or break you as a business owner. Professionally I plan on being more thorough with my marketing skills. Before this class my objective was just to pay someone to do the marketing. That is not the outlook a Successful business owner should have. They should know every part of the business. This class and Dr. Spellman is an example of what a true educator and business man is. In the beginning for me it was a little shaky as I felt I knew everything but Dr. Spellman assured me “There is still more to learn”. What I learned from him is to be thorough and clearly define my mission though marketing means. If I had to I would take his class again as he is very inspirational and I feel that I took away a truly lifelong lesson.
