A Brief History of Inreys Part 5
It’s finally here, the fifth and final part of my brief history of my homebrew setting. I can’t say it ends on a decisive note, but that is a story for another time...
7th Age – The Age of War
War is a constant force in the growth of empires, and so it came to pass that in a great time of prosperity and re-discovery that a truth was found, and the truth was misunderstood. A lowly monk by the name of Hermod Delmis was crawling through the lower libraries of Heironeous' high temple. He discovered a written account of the end of the 5th Age, and the life of Anwé Ungolian. While well learned in matters of law, and matters of religion, he was not a well versed in logic. Hermod took to the streets of the Imperial City, telling all who would hear it: Heironeous was greater than the rest of the gods, after all he bound his soul to the world. The news of this “revelation” did not go unheard by important ears and in fear of a religious civil war, the Emperor had Hermod imprisoned and later executed. The religious alliance formed between the formal churches of Inreys declared outrage at the execution of Monk Delmis, “Gods before man” being the rallying cry of the alliance. The paladins, clerics, monks, and other holy people of Inreys banded together and became an army, standing in opposition to the law of the land. The first act of war by the religious alliance was the attack on the Wizard's Citadel. Invoking divine magic and channelling faith in ways it was never meant to be channelled, the alliance crushed the magic surrounding the Citadel. Trapping all who were in there inside, and killing thousands. They also changed the seasons forever more, as the season of winter now occurred normally within Inreys. For the first time in over 25,000 years. The war raged on, and many atrocities were committed by both sides. Tired and broken, the religious alliance sued for peace after 4822 years of constant war. The war however was not without an upside. The soldiers of the war on the Imperial side learned many techniques and through war learned battle meditation, eventually this lead to an awakening within the minds of the people and the widespread birth of psionics in Inreys.
The 8th Age – The Age of the End
With the world at peace and the magic of the world waning, many things unfold and become undone. This is an age who's story and ending are too important to make and abridgement or to spoil here. Know that this is a time when the gods choose to walk amongst the living, and that debts are repaid and grudges are forgiven. This is the last age of Inreys, but not the end of the story.
