François Ozon really took a play that was about how women are catty bitches who'd drive any man to the brink with their fucking drama and made it about grand bourgeois hypocrisy and how the pater familias can't deal with *his* women having lives outside of him but will never manage to keep them truly contained forever, and also how so many women really really really want to fuck each other. I should gush about this movie more often.
