Escapril ~ day seven
Start with a time of day
8:14am, some Monday in November, the exact minute I leave my house and start sprinting down the lane to catch my bus because I’m never not late. 8:14am, some Monday in November, the exact minute the determination of a weak but strong-willed sun starts to show itself, first in fits and starts, and then in brilliant rays of pure white hope. So yes, it’s a Monday morning in the dead of winter. And yes, my back hurts from my school bag and I probably didn’t get enough sleep because I was up studying for an exam. But. Freezing cold winter air sears my lungs and finally, finally, I can feel something. I hold my hands up in the air, palm up, staring directly at that sun and I dare it to blind me, I dare it. Blood and ice and real, live feeling chorusing through me as my breath turns ragged, jolted by the sudden realisation that I am alive. I am alive goddamnit, even at 8:14am, some Monday in November. I am alive.
