eggsy goes through depressive episodes , owing to the rut he’s in , enduring an abusive stepfather and fully aware of the failures of his life  +  endeavours he’s abandoned for this life.    school.    gymnastics.    football.   and in particular , his time at the Marines.   this hits him hard , regularly   :    a place where he was genuinely happy , had friends he could call his family , and thrived in the disciplined and challenging environment.   he finally felt like he was accomplishing things , making progress towards a clear goal   --------------------   but his mother , misled to believe her husband had formerly been recruited by one of the “combat arms”  himself , broke down at the notion of losing her only son as well.   eggsy gave up everything for her , and unintentionally , for dean , and this sits heavy with him.    

that , and getting a job with his current lack of experience , his educational background and current  “  outlook  ”  is highly challenging , especially as recruiters start by looking at language , tone of voice , dress code.    eggsy has been through a few jobs , working as a cashier , or at the local pub , but when he feels like he’s getting less and less challenged by his work he acts out.   and this causes trouble.

eggsy’s lows mainly manifest as lethargy  --  in everything , really.   he refuses to shower , to shave , to change clothes , to engage in any sort of activity with his family or his mates.   takes to lying in bed , most days , or staring blankly at television , and eating a ton of junk food , if anything.   drinks a lot , and drops off the map.    turns off his phone.    his episodes normally last a few days before he musters the strength to do something , usually prompted verbally by michelle or physically by a baby daisy requiring food or attention or a nappy change ksjfk
