My First 888Lots Order

Top Mistakes To Avoid When Selling On eBay & Amazon

Selling online on different marketplaces, such as eBay or Amazon could be very profitable channels. However, there are many pitfalls a beginner could fall into. So, here is how you can avoid some of the biggest mistakes you can make if you’re just starting you e-commerce business on Amazon or eBay.

1. Set up the correct tax settings

Many merchants know all requirements for achieving success on marketplaces like Amazon. But what they usually forget about is tax. So, if you want to avoid problems when the time for handling sales tax comes, make sure all taxes for sales of your products are properly collected.

The Tax Settings page (in Amazon Seller Central settings, eBay’s My eBay setting) enables merchants to set the tax collection approach, product tax codes and set up other settings required in order to properly collect tax from buyers.

If things seem very complicated to you, one thing you can do is consult a professional on what you need to set.

2. Make sure you’re clear about your policies

Most customers on Amazon neglect the fact that they buy items from 3rd party merchants, not from Amazon.com. So, what they usually expect is to receive Amazon’s high level of customer service. In other words, sellers on Amazon are actually required to adhere to return policies that are at least as favourable as those of Amazon.

However, if you want to charge restocking fees or returns, you should include a description of your policy under the Returns and Refunds Policy section of your Seller profile page.
