I'm convinced that there is a canon order to the chapters in Octopath 2. It gets a little fuzzy in the middle but some things only make sense if they happen in a particular order.

Throné's Chapter 2 (Mother Route) takes place during the X many months timeskip of Partitio's Chapter 1 (After beating Giff, before setting out)

Temenos's Chapter 2 takes place before Castti's Chapter 1. That way there's no other apothecary to deal with the tainted water.

Temenos's final chapter happens immediately before Ochette's final chapter, the two of them are the last final chapters before endgame. Kaldena's actions are what triggers the Night of the Scarlet Moon

Castti's last two chapters have to happen immediately back to back because there's a time limit on that shit.

Given how many people of the Lineage of Light get killed in Octopath 2 it's like there's some kind of quiet genocide going on. Just a bunch of completely unconnected murders where the victims happen to be descended from a tribe chosen by oh I get it.

yeah i know it's the Moonshade Order but I think this puts it a little in context.
