Fresh Daily and 8thW1 Drop Pre-Thanksgiving Treat “It’s Lit!”

@freshdotdaily and 8thW1 met in the early 2000's on NYC's hip-hop open mic and showcase circuit. As fans of each other's styles and wishing there would be a win for the underdog, they began recording songs under the name "Charlie Brown’s Field Goal.” Charlie Brown's Field Goal was put on hiatus while Fresh & 8th went on to release a few solo projects before Fresh ventured into creating event series & record label Beat Haus and 8th pursued high education and earning a degree in English.

The vault has been opened and some of the more rarer gems and classics are now made available to the public. As a Pre-Thanksgiving treat, the duo are releasing over ten years of beats and raps today. Be sure to get familiar with It’s Lit!

We explored the entire work and we selected a dope track for da jazz-hop selection Black Talk but Coops also appeared on Dillalicious…Till’ Infinity with the stunning Coops Meets Dilla.Today we play another impressive piece from Lost Soul titled Blessing along Rexx‘s powerful bars. IVAN AVE – HANDS (PRODUCED BY FRED FADES)

Hands is the brainchild of the fruitful collaboration between two emerging hip-hop acts: Ivan Ave and Fred Fades. Ivan Ave is an emcee from Norway and we think he represents one of the best true hip-hop has to offer. He earned his stripes with the hip-hop jewel Low Jams produced by the genius MNDSGN and collaborated with hip-hop beatmakers Shungu on his project 24 Hours  and Elaquent on da track titled Oatmeal. Fred Fades is  a super-gifted hip-hop producer with a compelling aptitude to cook beats that flirts with old school hip-hop a la Evil Dee, Diamond D, Pete Rock, Primo, J.Dilla, Madlib.Two years ago Ivan and Fred worked side by side on a project titled Breathe dropped via King Underground. Now press play and taste the epic Hands. Definitely a modern classic!

New York collective Bu$hLeague Fyg impressed us with their style and swag! The project titled 94thSide EP will electrify you thanks hip-hop old-school bars over dope , extra dope instrumentals by Wun Two,Thelonius Martin,Iman Omari. We selected for us the jazzy and soulful track titled DMD produced by the U.K beat-architect Mecca:83 (make sure ya to check out his greatest-beats titled Ain’t Done Too Bad)

CJ FLY – DAY ZZZ’Z (PRODUCED BY STATIK SELEKTAH)

Brooklyn emcee and Pro Era affiliate CJ Fly  dropped Thee Way Eye See It showing to the world his abilities ! The project iz hott thanks outstanding productions by Soulection member Esta,Lee Bannon,Chuck Strangers,Cookin Soul and hip-hop mogul Statik Selektah,who last year released What Goes Around and collaborated with Joey Bada$$ on his debut album B4.DA.$$. INFINITE – ONE DAY

Former member of canadian hip-hop group Ghetto Concept , Desmond Francis aka Infinite pierced our mind with his project titled 360 Degrees. As other talented canadian hip-hop acts like Choclair (he appeared on The Remix Session Vol.3) , Infinite’s art of story-telling is nestled in a old school frame that makes your head nod. The top-tier joint titled One Day is a perfect example how hip-hop lyrics match perfectly with soul productions. In this case Infinite borrowed two epic instrumentals by Roy Ayers and Curtis Mayfield.

ISHDARR – SECOND (PRODUCED BY TOM MISH)

Racine young rapper IshDARR appeared on hip-hop selection Snapbacks and Swag . Influenced by old school artists like A Tribe Called Quest,Gil Scott Heron and others he recently dropped Old Soul Young Spirit. For this selection we highly recommend the masterpiece titled Second produced by the one and only Tom Mish

LUX DEVILLE FEAT. DJ MENTPLUS AND DAVE STOLARZ – KEEP IT GOIN

Trained drummer and respected producer Pat Van Dyke thrilled us with his collaborative project alongside talented rapper 8thW1 (also member of A-OK a collective of producers and emcees from the Brooklyn and Queens boroughs of New York) titled Lux DeVille. Today we focus our attention on the 2014 work titled Head First/Keep It Goin’ with two epic tunes written and performed by 8thW1 , produced by Pat Van Dyke.  We selected Keep It Goin’ enhanced with scratches by Brooklyn turntablist, producer, crate digger DJ Mentplus (check out his soundcloud page) and Dave Stolarz on fender rhodes. This joint is an instant classic! Pat Van Dyke is currently working on a brand new project titled Right On Time available in April via Jakarta Records

OTHASOUL – NEW AGE DISCRIMINATION (PRODUCED BY D MOBBS)

Camden superlative hip-hop trio OthaSoul is a valid choice if you’re looking for soulful old school hip-hop music. The U.K group represents one of our fave choice here on scratchtheblock.com. We showcased their sumptuous gem Changing Me with mogul Tom Mish and da boom-bap Synapsis. Last year in June we highlighted the masterpiece Real Talks from which we select the must have New Age Discrimination. Mad props to OthaSoul’s producer D Mobbs for the top-notch production.

THE ROOTS – MELLOW MY MAN

Last but not least we selected a great gem by legendary hip-hop group The Roots from their sophomore masterpiece Do You Want More. The entire opus epitomizes the exellence with laid back tunes,intense tracks and flashes of poetry  all flows together perfectly. Sit back and relax with the extra-soulful Mellow My Man.
